It’s official. You planned for it, looked forward to it and now it’s here. The long-awaited summer. Whatever your plans were, this period calls for execution. As scary as this may sound, summer, more than any other season, has a greater influence in increasing the chances of the most popular cancer, skin cancer. Little wonder why 5 million people are treated for skin cancer each year in the United States. It is no more news that this could be averted if only people took proper care of their skin by protecting it from sun rays.
How to stay sun-safe this summer
There are simple steps you need to follow to protect your skin this summer.
Dress up properly: This has nothing to do with decent or indecent dressing. Dressing up properly in the right gear is not negotiable during summer. Wear proper protective sunglasses and a hat to protect your face, ear and neck. You can equally sum it all up with a long sleeve shirt and a pair of pants to cover all exposed areas.
Use physical natural element sunscreens: The importance of applying sunscreen during summer cannot be overemphasized. It prevents skin discoloration, prevents premature aging and lowers skin cancer risks. Physical sunscreen protects against UVA and UVB rays–and contains active mineral ingredients, such as titanium dioxide or zinc oxide to deflect UV rays away from the skin
Build a good relationship with H2O: Spending more time outdoors this season comes with internal dehydration. You would be doing yourself a great favor by treating yourself to about 8 glasses of water daily. Not only does it help you stay hydrated, water also improves the skin.
Exfoliate weekly: Exfoliation helps remove dead cells that usually make your skin appear dull. It also helps skin cells regenerate rapidly, thereby keeping your skin looking younger.
And don’t forget: Enjoy fun in the sun safely!
